Her 2021 EP Heaux Tales, an intimate yet wholly relatable exploration of dating and sexuality from a Black woman’s perspective, showcased the full breadth of Sullivan’s talent. T-shirts, stickers, wall art, home decor, and more designed and sold by independent artists. Last week (April 30), DJ Khaled dropped Khaled Khaled, his star-studded album full of 14 bangers.
It would take six years for her to resurface, and although music had suffered without her, Sullivan’s comeback was well worth the wait.
Backseat so far is my favorite out of this due to Khalid’s insane vocal performance throughout supported by the mellow beat.
Khalid has really evolved since his first album both vocally and especially lyrically. After the release of her celebrated full-length album Reality Show in 2015, Jazmine Sullivan all but disappeared without a trace, leaving a palpable void in the music space. From the tracklist to the album cover, I was expecting a late night drive type of mood and it’s exactly what we got.
